Frequently asked questions
Factual answers to the questions candidates ask most.
Do I need a diploma to get a Part-66 licence?
No. Part-66 does not require a specific diploma. It requires passing the module examinations and practical experience. Recognised technical training or a Part-147 course does, however, reduce the experience required.
What is a Part-147 organisation?
A maintenance training organisation approved under Annex IV (Part-147) to Regulation (EU) No 1321/2014, authorised to deliver basic and/or type training and to hold examinations recognised for the Part-66 licence.
What is the difference between B1 and B2?
B1 covers mechanical work (structure, engines, mechanical and electrical systems). B2 covers avionics and electrical systems. The required modules and their levels differ.
Can I sit the modules without attending a course?
Yes, examinations can be taken with the competent authority or an approved Part-147 organisation without attending its course. The required experience is then longer than after a full Part-147 basic course.
Is the licence valid in other countries?
The Part-66 licence is recognised across EASA member states. Some non-EASA countries have agreements or similar rules; check case by case.
Does the licence expire?
The licence document must be renewed periodically (every five years). Exercising privileges also depends on recent experience and on authorisation by the employing organisation.
Can I change career as an adult?
Yes. Adult education programmes and Part-147 courses welcome adults. Previous technical experience may be taken into account by the authority.
How important is English?
Very. Most technical documentation is in English, and Part-66 examinations may be offered in English depending on the organisation.
